While on a trip to Europe in the late Spring of 2000, I saw a piece on the BBC profiling a French-based NGO called Parmaciens San Frontiers. They were doing work in Moldova, supporting orphanages and mental hospitals. The story was compelling enough for me to go myself and work on it.
